Flashback to 2004. You’re in the car, your parents are driving, windows are down and the radio is on. What song do you hear? “On the Way Down” by Ryan Cabrera: this song, a top 10 hit, played on every station, multiple times a day. For those who remember—and those who never want to forget—Ryan Cabrera will be at the Palace Theatre in Stafford Springs CT this Friday, April 3.
Since his hit’s “On the Way Down” and “True,” Cabrera has faded from the spotlight. He produced three other albums in the following year: “You Stand Watching” (2005), “I Will Remember You” (2006) and “The Moon Under Water” (2008). None reached the same acclaim as his earliest recordings.
In 2014, Cabrera was the first artist to sign with Dynamite Music, a partnership between Mitchell Davis, Marco Liuzzo, Caroline Records and Universal Music Group. He has since released a single, “House on Fire” on Oct. 22, 2014 and an EP “Wake Up Beautiful” on March 3, 2012.
With such a long break between albums, Cabrera claims that he had a “personal and professional epiphany.” “I wanted ‘love’ to be the focus of what I do, and I wanted to record a positive record that encourages people to think of love in every situation, relationship and family situation,” Cabrera told The Providence Journal. “Love doesn’t have to be a romantic relationship. It can be friendship or a job. Love is something we experience all throughout our lives in many ways.”
If you have a soft spot for this now 32-year-old, be sure to catch his show today at the Palace Theatre.
