This Thursday, the UConn women’s tennis team will host Fairfield University. The match will be held at the East Hartford Tennis Club at 12:15 p.m.
The Huskies are coming off of a trip to California where they defeated Point Loma Nazarene University and Azusa Pacific University after losing to UMass. They will be looking to carry their momentum into their match against the Stags.
UConn is 9-7 so far this season and 0-2 in conference play. It has been a long season for the Huskies as they, unlike many other teams, they compete almost all year round. This is why trips like the one to California are not only great for training and building camaraderie but also for taking a break from the harsh northeastern weather and coming into the second half of the season refreshed.
Fairfield is coming into the match with a 3-2 record. The in-state rivals are familiar foes for the Huskies. The Stags were last in action Friday when they fell 6-1 at Providence. They like UConn could really use this win as they head into conference play. After this Thursday’s match the Stags will take on conference foe, Marist College. Fairfield is 2-0 so far this season in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play this season.
The match against Fairfield is the start of a very busy week for the Huskies. In the next three days the team will have two more matches, as they travel to Philadelphia, where they will take on Temple and Villanova. Against Temple they will look to get their first conference win of the season.
